The business management guru Peter Drucker (are we showing our age?) once said “If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it”. The measurability of email marketing is certainly one of the key factors attributing to its growth over recent years.
Our best practice model provides a framework for carrying out necessary results analysis so that key lessons can be learned, and future marketing strategy can be made on the basis of informed & insightful decision making. In other words, instilling a process and culture of continuous improvement. Email marketing is second only to search in terms of the ROI achieved (eConsultancy research).
We think a word of caution is also in order. Balance is needed here. There is such a thing as over analysis. Also sometimes a campaign can have unexpected results, and in some cases the best approach is to just simply move on and not seek or force yourself to draw life changing lessons from every campaign!
